How do I anonymize customer data?

If your company works with strict privacy regulations, it might be a company policy to anonymize certain customer data in the results of your surveys. This article will explain how you can do this. Before you continue reading, please be aware that anonymized data cannot be recovered. If you need to use the data for certain actions, please make sure you do that first.

If anonymisation is turned on it will automatically anonimise all contact details data fields (name, email & telephone) in all the feedback forms in that report. If you only want to apply the anonimisation to one form we would advise to build this feedback form in a separate report.

Step 1: Reports

On the left-hand side of the page, go to ‘Settings’ > ‘Reports’.

Step 2: Edit report

Click on the pencil icon of the report you would like to edit.

Check the box ‘Anonymize customer data after period’. New options will appear:

Step 3: Anonymize

You can now choose when your customer data will be anonymized and which survey fields you would like to anonymize. The anonymization of email addresses and phone numbers are standard. You can choose to also anonymize comments, website data and URL parameters:

Step 4: Check

To check whether your surveys have been anonymized, go to your feedback inbox, under ‘Reporting’.

This is how your feedback results will  look like after the process is complete:

Do note, if this was your first time anonymizing data, it could take a while till the anonymization is incorporated.
