How do I analyse multiple data sources in one chart?

When you’re working with complex feedback data across multiple channels, brands, domains or funnels, eventually you’re going to want to compare metrics across these channels. The following article will explain how you can analyse and compare data from multiple data sources in one chart. This will allow you to compare your customer satisfaction score across different channels, your NPS across multiple brands, your goal completion rate across different funnels or compare any other metrics inside your feedback. We will be looking at three different data sets with NPS scores and give two examples of how you can compare the different data sets. We will create a bar chart and a line graph.

The data sources you want to combine, need to be in the same report. Comparison between data sources in different reports is not possible yet.

To create a chart, in your dashboard, click on the blue add charts button, in the bottom right corner, select ‘New chart' and start 'From scratch’.

Bar Charts

Step 1: Add data sets

We would like to compare the different types of NPS scores of three different companies that sell flying tickets. We, therefore, select these three data sets and the corresponding NPS scores. Since NPS has three different NPS calculators; Passives, Promoters and Detractors, we have to select NPS three times for each company. So, we will have 9 different data series in total.

Step 2: Data calculation

Next, for each company, we select the three different types of NPS calculators and for all, set them to ‘Percentage’, under the ‘Series’ tab.

Step 3: Group against

Select the variable to group the NPS categories against. Make sure that these are the same for each data series.

The ‘Group against’ is the same for all data sources. This is done automatically.

Step 4: Type & Options

Under ‘Type’, we select the ‘Bar’ chart. Next, under ‘Options’, we stack the series and show the data labels.

Stacking the correct series together is done automatically.

Step 5: Graph

The created bar chart will provide you with information about the three different NPS types for each company. We see that in March, for example, FlyTickets did very well as they had no detractors. Overall, it seems like FlyTickets was rated the best, as they had the most promoters each month, except in May, where DreamFlights had more promoters.

Line Graphs

Step 1: Add data sets

We would like to compare the NPS scores of three different companies that sell flying tickets in a time frame of 6 months. We, therefore, select the NPS score once for the three data sets.

Step 2: Data calculation

For line graphs, it is important that, unlike bar charts, the data calculation is the same for all series. We will use the general NPS calculation:

Step 3: Group against

Similarly, as with the bar chart, the ‘Group against’ is the same for all data sources. This is done automatically as well.

Step 4: Type & Options

Under ‘Type’, we select the ‘Line’ chart. Next, under ‘Options’, we do not need to stack the series, but we still want to see the data labels.

Step 5: Graph

In the resulting line chart, we can see in which month which company had the highest/lowest NPS score. For example, we see that GoVacation always had a negative score, and always scored lower than the other two companies.
